On the way back, opposite direction, sorry, just want to be clear on this.
Leave the Park Inn, cross the main road (Bath Road I believe) and turn right. IIRC there is a pub there with a bus stop in front of it. Take bus 423 - it stops at Terminal 5 after about 15-20 minutes.
All red city buses (won't be double-decker for this route though) are free within a limited radius around the airport. Basically so that airport staff and others don't drive into the airport area and add to congestion...
If you want to try city buses on the way to the Park Inn, you need to find the bus terminal, which is near the Underground station and is marked with signs. A number of buses would do - 111 and 140 are probably the best and most frequent. You should see the Park Inn just back from the main road - be ready to get off right away. I think it's the third stop after the bus exits the tunnel under the runway. (but it's not guaranteed anyone will get off at the first two so you might miss them) The bus stops in front of a petrol station - Texaco? IIRC - and you can walk over to the Park Inn.
