Glad to hear all the success stories. I have a 7 hour layover on a DL->VA connection next year, so I'm planning to leave the airport to either go to the beach or meet a friend. You shouldn't have PreCheck for the flight from LAX if it's on VA. Even though DL issues the BP for the LAX flight on VA, VA like all international airlines doesn't participate in PreCheck. PreCheck is done on a flight segment basis. Thus, the BP for flight from LAX shouldn't show PreCheck.
YMMV, and it may indeed mistakenly print with it. I know it does sometimes happen, so would check the BP before going to T5 just because of PreCheck.
Shouldn't have a problem with TSA regarding terminal. They're connected airside between 630p and 11pm via shuttle, thus it really doesn't matter which terminal you clear at.
