My DH purchased a last minute ticket this morning in economy, paid $34 for an exit row and when he checked in, was offered an upgrade to F for $90. Since we didn't know the refund rules, he didn't take it as for the length of flight it wouldn't have been worth $124 ($90+$34) but if the MCE would have been refunded (like it is in this situation on UA) he would likely have purchased the upgrade.

I looked at the refund terms and don't see it specifically addressed...it talks about no refund if you change to a less expensive ticket....which implies that it might be refundable for a more expensive ticket.

So that we are in the know in the future, can one of you experts let me know how AA handles this?
