When doing OLCI, there often is a list of things you are not supposed to have check in luggage, I guess Li batteries are on there..? But are laptops? Must look more carefully at what I tick as having agreed to in future .

I would never check in anything valuable, but then I live in South Africa where you soon learn to keep anything of any value at all in sight 24/7.
ex-Asia I'm always asked if I have batteries in my checked luggage, and at security my powerbanks are always removed for inspection to check capacity.

I think it was after the OZ991 crash and the issues with ANA's Dreamliners which basically made airlines and airports in the region crack down on lithium batteries, especially standalone spares of non standard types (and the fact that people in Asia love powerbanks).

FYI, Macbooks seem to be quite popular with people - their batteries have a capacity of below 100 watt-hour, so are good to go, as long as they are sealed properly to prevent short circuits.
