Interesting question. After many hundreds of flights, many long haul and on a multitude of airlines, no check in agent has ever asked me if I had a device containing a Li battery in my checked luggage...
When doing OLCI, there often is a list of things you are not supposed to have check in luggage, I guess Li batteries are on there..? But are laptops? Must look more carefully at what I tick as having agreed to in future .

I would never check in anything valuable, but then I live in South Africa where you soon learn to keep anything of any value at all in sight 24/7.
