a couple of things here, do you have OW status at all. Even if you have a BUS/FIR class booking on BA and do not have OW status, you will not be able to select seats ahead of time, only within 24hrs, if you select seats, you will have to pay.

As for your reservation, have you gone to BA to check on it, to see if the changes have been done? More importantly, what did AA said when you called then on this?
