I always travel with a small "Swiss army knife" in my shaving kit, along with a corkscrew. Only once was I questioned, when leaving CDG. When it was detected as my carryon went thru the xray machine, I simply said that I carry it along to cut cheese when I am in Paris and they noded and smiled and let me pass.
My little key chain laser pointer is a different matter. I have been stopped several times with this. Security seems to think it a dangerous weapon. I have learned to put it, and my cell phone, in my backpack while I go thru the x-ray machine at security. On the other side of security, I simply remove both, and put the phone back on my belt and keychain in my pocket. Since I have begun to do this, I have NEVER again been questiones
