Why on Earth have people gotten so bloody worked up on this topic? The sniping up-thread is unseemly, especially given how little you all actually disagree about. I think I can resolve this here in about 30 seconds.
Are virtual cards the way of the future? Probably. Are some airlines and other programs already going this way? Yes.
Should AC introduce one? Probably, since it's likely the way of the future.
Should AC eliminate physical cards altogether right now? Clearly not since many lounges, whether AC's or not, still require physical cards to access, as well as some 3rd parties like Esso.
Will AC/AE botch the rollout when it comes time? Of course, it's what they do.
Should this be a priority for AC? Absolutely not. Carrying around a physical card isn't that big a deal and there are so many bigger IT problems it should be working to resolve. The ridiculous amount of downtime at aeroplan.com. The inability to manage all bookings by logging in to one's account at ac.com. And on and on and on. Personally, I'd also rather continue to have a physcial card. I hate all this nonsense of constantly having to pull things up on my phone and scan it or hand it over, I like paper BPs and my physical AC card.
Now can we end this juvenile pissing match?
