In<3 years it will significantly impact those that don't embrace it now.
Well except those who shake their cane and kids who cut across their lawn

Significantly impact? You know most of the world is not dominated by smart mobile devices yet right? Smartphones are not as widely adopted as many in N. America think they are.
Here's a great way to bankrupt airlines, some of whom are still in trouble. Have Star Alliance mandate either a) an upgrade to their IT system to allow for this to work or b) an upgrade to every computer terminal to allow for this to happen. or c) both
Yeah, good way to cause them a huge amount of financial pain that affects a REALLY small percentage of their fliers.
The ROI on this venture is poor, incredibly poor.
Let's look at the list of things they can focus on first..
1) Ability to rebook a cancelled flight online
2) Ability to order a SPML online
3) Ability to use a voucher with a cancelled flight credit
etc.
#1-3 affect a LOT more people than what we are proposing here.

Again, you're asking AC to spend millions of $ in order to provide you a virtual Altitude card for you to use at
ESSO.

ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!
Step back from the trees for a minute.
The technology exists, other companies are using it. The future is here. I am not the only one posting here who feels this way.
Simple, are you willing to pay for it by way of higher fares?
Many people on here do not work with companies who have up to 400,000 seats covering 190+ countries. I do, and the # of computers I support (up to 400,000) is nothing,
nothing compared to all of the terminals operated by *A. I at least don't even have to work with legacy systems, and change is already difficult enough.
For the 5?th time:
Air Canada already doesn't require you to use your Altitude card at all.
Is the technology out there? Yes. Is it good ROI for *A to spend on it? No. Has AC already implemented said system?
YES.
