These double sectored AA flights stem from their relationship with the former US Airways. On US you would only get one lot of TPs typically, whereas on AA you would get 2.
That does not match my experience. On AA I've only ever been credited for one flight when booked under the same flight number, regardless of class of service, seat or equipment. The only exception being flights that cross the date line.
