A few days ago I decided to grab a quick bite to eat for breakfast between flights at EWR terminal C 90-99 area.
That left me at their new-ish "Global Bazaar", which has got to be the most bazaar experience of airport food that I've ever come across. The only thing I can decide is that they sat down and tried to work out how they could make the whole process as convoluted as possible - and they succeeded!
First I had to go to Custom Burgers, and use a tablet to select what I wanted to order. They have 3 such tablets, on stands so that they are far too close together for an airport location where people have bags/etc - especially if you get the middle one like I did. At the end of this process, a printer spits out a receipt. The person next to me finished at almost exactly the same time, and the printers are shared, so there was some confusion which was mine and which was his - especially given both orders were very similar - but we eventually worked it out.
Next - and there's no instructions to tell you this - you need to go to a completely different area of the bazaar and use a self-service checkout style machine to scan the barcode on your receipt and pay for your order. Except the barcodes don't scan well. In fact, on one of the machines they appear not to scan at all, but eventually after lining up twice to get to a machine I was able to pay for my order.
To make things even more confusing, I now have 2 receipts - both with different amounts on them as one includes tax and the other doesn't.
Next it's back to the original shop to show them your receipt (the second one) as proof of payment, and then eventually to collect your food.
Finally, at least for the shop I went to, if you need condiments/utensils/etc, then it's back to the same place that you paid to collect those.
As is common, the receipt (the second one) includes the comment that "We want your feedback" and a URL. Except the URL takes you nowhere but to the OTG website, which has nowhere that you can actually leave feedback.
Definitely the first and last time there for me...
