I have no idea how hotel categories would end up with a combined loyalty program; I don't even hazard a guess other than to observe that both programs currently have 7 categories.
My hope is that the combined program would be more like today's SPG. SPG accounts could transfer at 1:1 into the new program and Hyatt points could be converted at a certain rate.
Hyatt currently provides better redemption value at top properties (some SPG properties require significantly more points per night).
SPG is better for air miles though, especially if transferring in the right increments to trigger the 25% bonus.
