The handwriting is on the wall. The airlines are going to continue to build up their web sites and offer incentives to their customers to book online. As the traveling public gets more and more into the habit of booking their own tickets and the airlines' dependence on travel agents declines, they are going to continue to slowly squeeze the commissions down closer and closer to zero. I do feel sorry for the travel agents here, but they might as well realize what the eventual outcome of this is going to be and get into another line of work while they can. No amount of protesting is going to stop this trend.
