I made Plat via the EQP challenge (Gold for the Better 1/2) but my AA acct says that I need 8664 miles to get my 500 mile upgrades of which I guess means that I will be EXPlat (I'm asking pls) and will be getting systemwide upgrades as well.

Plats get 4x 500-mile upgrades for every 10,000 miles flown. My guess is that you are 8,664 miles away from your next set of sticker upgrades, not that you are 8,664 miles away from EXP. You need 100,000 elite qualifying miles or points to qualify for EXP, even if you are already Plat after only accumulating 10,000 EQPs.
If you want to upfare, you can call in. Note, though, that full fare is often ~3x or more discount first/business, and you will likely have to pay a change fee. Your itinerary appears to be $3,072 per person if booked in F/J.
