That's still ripping off OP's employer and people get fired for that sort of thing. Just claiming the points (and status) is generally allowed. Using the employer's money to buy extra points (status) generally isn't, unless it actually saves the employer money. (E.g. "You paid $30 to get me status. Having status saved you $15 on my breakfast five mornings.")
