That is the logical conclusion. This is not so great for those whose PC status years finish toward the end of the calendar year (unless, of course, you were to drop down a tier: then you would be upgraded on 1st January).
As I see it, everyone successfully completing the Globetrotter promotion will have their PC status year reset to the calendar year.
