You could of course check if the bag in your space above your seat belongs to some on close by, if not then you would of course be duty bound to report to the crew that there is a bag on their aircraft which does not appear to belong to anyone on the aircraft, but they may want to check down the bank before they call the police. Hand them the bag and place your bag in it's place.
