I've seen this argument many times but I've never bought into it and no one has ever been able to give a satisfactory answer. But I'll ask the question again. Are there really that many people traveling from a city only served by DTW to a city only served by MSP? The number of people needing to double-connect within the Midwest has got to be low. There really shouldn't need to be a huge demand for hub to hub flights. Outside of ATL the other hubs only have a handful of unique cities only served by that hub.
Or from DTW to MSP, or from DTW to a city served by MSP but not DTW, or from a city served from DTW but not MSP to MSP.
