DOT Opens Gateway To Vietnam

DOT Opens Gateway To Vietnam

For the first time in decades American travelers will soon be able to fly to Vietnam. The US Department of Transportation today tentatively granted rights to three US carriers to provide air service to the south-east Asian country.

Services will be on a code-share basis with the airlines' third country partners.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta said: " Today's action is an important step in what I am confident will be a growing aviation relationship between the United States and Vietnam in the coming years."

The DOT tentatively awarded U.S.-Vietnam code-sharing rights to Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines. A total of 21 round-trip code-sharing flights are available to be awarded, with each airline getting seven flights.
