USAFAN, may be correct, I am not sure of any recent changes to the regulations. In any case the SSN I was referring to was not a "real" one and was only for opening a bank account.

The W-8 form advice was also correct.

I'd also like to point out that many banks will accept 000-00-0000 as your SSN as they need to fill the data field somehow!
