Renaissance Denver Downtown trip review

Just spent four nights at the Renaissance Denver Downtown, Thursday night leaving Monday, so got both weekday and weekend vibe. Generally agree with JTWIZ review upthread - good hard product, but the service, particularly housekeeping, is hit and miss.

Impressive lobby and nice renovation and reuse of old bank. great location just off of 16th street mall so convenient for all the restaurants from there down to Union Station. Ate at Range, the restaurant in the hotel on the first night which was fine but not great. Service was workmanlike at best; they completely missed the birthday notation on the reservation - typical of our experience there. Bar in the lobby is nice for people watching and always busy.

King Premium room on fifth floor. Large room, odd layout with a single chaise and ottoman, and a very large empty space that should have been filled by a sofa. No drawers, and no safe (!!) in the room. Lots of plugs, including desk, by the bed, and on the wall by the chaise. Very normal bathroom, just a shower/tub combo; not impressive.

As noted by JTWIZ, housekeeping was really spotty. The first day we were out from 9 - 4, came back and the room hadn't even been serviced. We found a housekeeper in the hallway but she did not appear to understand our request - not sure if English was the issue or she was stoned, it was that weird. We went down to the desk to politely ask for service and then hung out in the lounge for an hour - room was partially serviced when we went back. Other days our room was serviced but something was always 'wrong." One day they failed to take some drink glasses left over, another day they failed to give us any fresh towels. They never replenished shampoo during our stay but did moisturizer. Overall not impressive.

Room was quiet - 5th floor facing 17th street. AC was very quiet and very effective.

Club is on the 2d level of the lobby overlooking the bar and a nice spot for breakfasts and for drinks; normal spread for breakfasts and for evening, although limited hors d'ouvres and desserts on Sunday night - may just have been due to low numbers. Service staff friendly but limited so running all the time.

Gym is in the basement and well-equipped including free weights and machines, along with normal cardio.

Our rate included valet parking so used it every day, as noted there is a public garage next door that would be cheaper than using valet - that's where they park the cars anyway.

Overall great location and nice hard product; spotty service. Would stay again to be downtown but would also try Courtyard or Residence Inn that are nearby and generally less expensive.
