I would suggest going for the short connection, and if you do miss it take a copy of your original itin to the Comair desk and explain the situation, I am 90% sure that they will get you onto the later flight without issue.
I have missed several connecting flights at JNB and BA/Comair just put me on the next flight without questions, even on SAA if that flight is closer. Also, this is British Airways (operated by Comair) so for a customer it's British Airways, not Comair.
As for the SLOW lounge in the domestic area. This is of course excellent but no alcohol before 11 am
However, there's an excellent pub/bar just down the escalator to the right for the morning drink ^
