I called up AA and the agent said all they would do is "try" and find me a later departure that day, that because it's non-refundable there be no refund yada yada
I know for a fact (as it's happened to me many times) that if I had a BA itinerary with AA sectors and one of the AA ones got changed, then BA would freely change the time/routing (within limits) or give me a full refund for the whole trip, even on an I class sale fare...
I also know that AA is not BA, but it would be great if the kind AA experts on here could please advise me of my options - do I have to accept a retime, or can I push for a refund ?
Thanks !

AA schedule change. You're eligible for a full refund back to original form of payment given it's more than 61 minutes schedule change.
Your other options will be to look for alternative flights that work for you and call to change, they can probably do +/- one day for inbound and/or outbound depending the agent.
