I just checked Orbitz to determine what my estimated cost of purchase would be from SFO to Larnaca, Cyprus fare next Spring (May 2002) to visit a friend who is getting married in Cyprus next year. The fares were about $1800 for a reasonable layover, to around $1000 for a significant layover, for example, at Heathrow.

Ideally I'd like to use the miles to get there. Here's what I have to work with:

Delta (> 100K)
UAL (> 80K)
Starwood (>80K)

Lastly I have a few leftover miles on British Airways which I could add to, to get the needed miles to fly BA to Heathrow, then on to Cyprus. Ideally I'd like to get rid of some Delta miles; when I called Delta they mentioned that I could purchase a ticket (fine) but could not upgrade on a partner airline just on Delta (example: Delta to Athens via Frankfurt then to Cyprus).

Any suggestions on the best use of the miles to Cyprus or who has a great connection out of the West Coast would be appreciated. Ideally, UAL or Delta partners
