The one time in my life I wore an aloha shirt tucked in, my Hawaiian coworkers shamed me so badly I learned my lesson. They told me in no uncertain terms that only mainlanders ever tucked in their aloha shirts, and over 20+ years of business trips to Hawaii I found that to actually be the truth.
Now I'm sure there are different levels of business attire on the islands, just like there are on the mainland. But I just thought I would share my experience, because I've been much more comfortable now with my aloha shirts untucked, both when relaxing and when doing business!
If you work in downtown Honolulu, or in any professional service, you tuck in your shirt. That goes for anyone, whether Kama'aina or Malihini.
