Delta has had this for years. It works brilliantly. United needs to implement this. At this point let's start with the basics - a feature in the mobile app that tracks your checked bags after check in...showing when they were scanned and where. To get fancy the app should be able to alert you that your bags are either early (on an earlier flight) or late (missed your flight).

I've been alerted from UA by text when my bag didn't make it and/or came on a different flight.
It's not always accurate, but they do have some sort of functionality. Not sure how I registered for it, but UA has my cellphone in my profile.
