Vacationers Stalled by Strikes
French summer vacationers set off Friday on highways abandoned by striking toll collectors, while others flocked to airports hobbled by striking Air France workers, turning one of the nation's busiest travel weekends into a traffic-snarled nightmare.
The start of July marks the beginning of summer holiday travel in France. Three million vacation seekers were expected to be on the move this weekend, French media reported.
Air France was forced to cancel 60 flights scheduled for Friday as one of the unions that represents flight attendants began a four-day strike to press for salary increases and bonuses.
