I was fortunately op upped from WT+ to CW on the LHR-SIN leg, and for some reason [unknown] that changed the psychology and I ended up using 35,000 AVIOS + £34 to upgrade the SIN-LHR leg. Don't ask why I was suddenly happy to part with 35k AVIOS that I wasn't before, because I'm not entirely sure!
