They may show as waitlisted the first day they open, but within a day to a week they open up. Of course, once they're booked (and they do book relatively fast) more don't seem to open up until last minute.
I'm actually looking for 3 seats in business class a year out, as soon as they are released. Route would be any European airport to Auckland one-way.
To me, it seems like the SIN-AKL leg get released first and often books quickly leaving the ZUR-AKL (via SIN) or AMS-AKL (via SIN) not showing saver level availability. And of course some routes do not release 3 business class award seats too!
