The whole point of getting GE is to not be asked these questions. I don't know what they are doing. They can certainly ask Customs questions, but there's no need to ask immigration-type questions for GE passengers.

That's pretty bad. They are supposed to have some training, especially since Iran is just a few miles away. There have never been any Cuba-style restrictions on travel to Iran, even in the dark days of the embassy takeover.
But the Iran thing probably explains your SSSS.
