I agree that for the return flight to BKK, EC Reg. 261/04 is applicable and compensation for delay is due.
The OP only stated that the delay was caused by a late arrival of the inbound aircraft. He is not seeking compensation for the flight which he does not use, only for his/her LHR-BKK flight.
