Matt, geo. The Airbus is wider than the 737, that is a fact, not a point of debate. Therefore, many Airbus carriers (maybe not United) make the seats an extra inch wider, which is more comfortable. The walls are straighter so the cabin feels bigger, pitch needn't be affected. I'm very broad and I'll take an extra 5% or so in room, even on a short flight.
