Thumper,
I'm not sure where your consternation is coming from, but I've taken it for granted since I've been renting cars that there's always a refueling surcharge whether you do prepaid or, especially, if you bring it back empty.
Besides, who at Budget was holding a gun up to your head demanding that you buy into the prepay service?</font>
Interesting response. "who was holding a gun to your head" - great choice in wording.
First, I did not prepay.
Second, most reputable places charge a little less than street price.
Third, if you brought it back empty without prepaying it was $4.80 a gallon.
And lastly, the post was for people who are not as learned as those who responded. Great, helpful advice about National - it will help fellow travellers. Many newbies, and even those with nothing left to learn, turn to this site for good travel advice. That was my offering.
