I am currently staying at this hotel. The experience wasn't that good.
The hotel seems lacking service training. The club lounge reception area needs some organization, papers laying around. Check-in person took longer time to merge back to bak reservation. In contrast, HongQiao Sheraton is more efficient and professional. All the lounge attendants at HongQiao knows me by my name. The attendant at Pudong Sheraton could be more friendly.
I kindly asked about suite availability, attendant said the week was rather full. They already pre-allocate a club floor room on the high level with welcome fruit for me. I asked if the room has view of the river, she said it was a high floow. It turned out the room was facing the other way, pretty depressing side of Shanghai. I stayed at this hotel a few saturday ago, I was also assigned to that side of the room. Very depressing.
When I arrived my room, the smell was not refreshing. It smells like aged AC unit that never get cleanned or the filter never get cleanned or the hotel just pump outside air directly into the room. The granite floor has a big crack, and feel like it wasn't properly cleaned. The carpet shows some age too.
What also bothers me was the light switches. Before bed time, I had to individually turn off each switch. And the on and off side do not synchronize. Very bizzard.
The hotel is located in a remote area. You need taxi to get to more vibrant parts of the city. The restaurant selection is extremely limited, there is no import food supermarket near by to get imported bottle water.
If it is not because of the location that's close to my work, I would not stay here.
