For some reason, United could not ticket the GVA-LHR leg.
So I went and booked on swiss.com for 83 CHF, a classic fare. Shows Classic-L in the confirmation email.
What is odd is that on initial search, it showed as 83 GBP but somewhere during the purchase process, it changed from GBP to CHF.
And initially, they were imposing a 11 CHF for using a credit card but once I chose US, the surcharge disappeared.
So the Classic fare is suppose to include one checked bag. However, once I put in my UA MP number, the e-ticket I got says baggage provision for "Star Gold **" so as long as I got out of the Light fare, I guess I'm set.
The link above seems to indicate that the baggage charge for the Light fare is €15 at swiss.com and €30 at checkin and even higher at gate. So maybe I can try to prepay it?
Right now, I paid $85 for the LHR-GVA light ticket with the €30 checked bag fee. Looks like I could get the Light fare now for £70.80 so that would be about $5-10 less than $85 + €30.
Not worth changing for that much.
My only concern is when I go to the check-in counter, whether they'll tell me a different story, try to charge way more than €30.
Plus this is the flight that I'm kind of gambling on. I have a separate UA ticket for a flight scheduled for 6:55 arrival at LHR (from IAH) and the LX flight is at 8:55.
I may not even make this flight and may have to book another. I booked these as two one-way tickets, in case I miss the outbound.
