My craziest example of a junk fee was a $2 per night charge for having a room with an in room safe in a hotel in which every room had an in room safe. This was assessed regardless of whether one used the safe or not. [In fact, I hadn't even seen the thing until I noticed the charge on the bill slipped under my door on the last night.] The hotel refused to remove the charge, which was not disclosed in advance, and needless to say I have never returned.
I've also seen Vegas hotels charge $6-8 for "bell service" by nonexistent bell persons; I had to carry my own luggage upon arrival and departure, but was still charged the fee. Oh yeah, and the Caribe Hilton in San Juan PR charged *twenty five cents per night* as a mandatory tip for housekeepers, again not disclosed until checkout when one has presumably unknowingly already tipped them.
