Angry HILTON HOSPITALITY SURCHARGE - Did Hilton Worldwide Hotels bill you an extra fee?

When you stay at a Hilton Worldwide property, do you expect hospitality?

If you stay at the Hilton Garden Inn at the Albuquerque, New Mexico airport, you are billed an extra hospitality surcharge. This weekend, I was an overnight guest. My folio had a $3.78 “hospitality surcharge” added to the total bill.

The dictionary says the definition of hospitality is “(1) the friendly reception and treatment of guests or strangers or (2) the quality or disposition of receiving and treating guests and strangers in a warm, friendly, generous way.”

On arrival, the front desk asked me my name and said, “Welcome (insert your name here). Thanks for being a gold Honors member.”

Since the Albuquerque Airport Hilton Garden Inn is not a resort, on checkout, I asked the hotel desk manager why they add an extra fee for the unadvertised Hilton hospitality surcharge. The manager said it is for the TV monitor in the lobby displaying flight departure data and the lights in the hotel. I can now appreciate the Motel 6 commercial saying, “we’ll leave the light on for you.” He also said this extra surcharge was the only surcharge he could remove and asked if I wanted this extra surcharge removed. I said, “Yes, please.”

I wonder if the Hilton front desk skipped their hospitality greeting, road warriors like you and I could save thousands of dollars on these exasperating Hilton hospitality surcharges. Since Hilton Worldwide properties now impose an extra surcharge to their elite Hilton guests just to be hospitable, I will favor other hotels that do not charge an extra fee for their hospitality.

According to the Hilton website, http://www.hiltonworldwide.com “Hilton Worldwide is one of the largest hospitality companies in the world.”

I want to know, if you stayed at a Hilton hotel, how much extra did you pay for Hilton hospitality surcharges?
