It will be just before Halloween - we're flying home on the 31st, but we expect all of San Antonio to be decked out for Dios del Morte (or however it's spelled!). And I'm very excited to be at the EM- you're right, we can stay in a cookie cutter place any time and it looks very interesting (and we're hoping for a little "activity") we actually had some friends whose house was haunted (and they are very normal people, like us) but their stories were hard to discount.

But still to the subject at hand...I still very much believe that if you are told ahead of time about renovations, and you choose to book anyway, then the hotel does not "owe" you anything, even though I'd like a discount I would never ask for one if I knew going in that things were going to be disrupted, that would be my choice.
