For 4000 Euros 1-way, I would have been upset also.

However, I am surprised the Russian was slumming it in J.
Thanks, I should have elaborated on the hard product beyond the AV going down.

- Hardwired headphones? When I got to the seat, I looked for the headphones, and discovered they do not disconnect, and obviously had not been cleaned recently (looked visibly dusty & slightly stained). Gross!

- Insanely slow AV system. Often took either multiple presses, or you had to wait 2 or 3 seconds for your command to be recognized.

- Interference from the power supply on the AV screens. Every screen I saw had wavy lines in the background. Depending on what was on the screen, it was either a minor issue, or made the screen nearly unreadable.

- My tray table mechanism was broken, and would not fully lift. Hard to describe without seeing it, but it meant that the tray would not support itself (it had to sit on my lap with my thighs supporting the weight), and would not sit flat (it was always at a slight angle).

- I'm flying next week to Hong Kong from JFK on Cathay. Both flights are on 777-300ERs. Unless I'm mistaken, the Cathay J configuration is 1-2-1, while the AF config was 2-3-2. That's nearly twice as many seats per row! Having a middle seat in J just seems wrong (even though I wasn't sitting in it). Other than the seat reclining to nearly flat, the seat felt more like a premium economy seat than a business class seat.
