Slowdown @ MCI

MCI Airport (nicknamed locally 'KCI' for Kansas City Interntational) is great because it is easy & fast to get in and out of, and because you can get from the parking lot to the gate within 2 minutes. This will not be so for a while.

From www.iflykansascity.com:

CONSTRUCTION AT KCI – ADD 30 MINUTES TO YOUR TRAVEL TIME

On Monday, June 11, traffic lanes in front of construction areas in Terminal C will be reduced from six lanes to three. On June 13, Terminal A lanes will go through a similar transition. Temporary walkways will be erected in the closed lanes. For the safety of the public, the speed limit around the terminals will be reduced from 25 to 15 mph.

KCI officials advise airline passengers to plan ahead, and add 30 minutes to their travel time to ensure they make their flights. Signs at the airport will help direct airport users around construction zones, and the volunteer KCI Airport Ambassadors will assist people with directions and information inside the terminal.

The narrowing of the traffic lanes will greatly reduce curb space to pick-up and drop-off passengers. To help ease congestion at the curb, KCI officials advise airport users to take advantage of 30 minutes free parking in the garages directly across from the terminals and use the garage tunnels to get to the airlines. Starting on Monday, June 11, airport users will also have the option to park for free in the Circle parking lot for 30 minutes.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience, and appreciate your patience during construction.
