TWA vs. NW First Class Wow, what a difference

Just flew on both from STL to DTW. On TWA, it was a bag of nuts, and a Coke. Nothing more. On NWA, it was nonstop attention, from two cocktails (pre take-off), to a basket of the peanuts, and then a "snack" consisting of a huge bacon/chicken pita wrap (and bevvies along the way) Why is there such a huge discrepancy? Is it TWA's financial problems? On the connecting flight to FLL, same menu/service. Seems to be a discrepancy.
