I just recalled a FULL 747 international evening flight delayed to Europe years ago. The cabin crew was short 9 people due to blue flu.

After takeoff, the Capt announced that there would be no charge for drinks due to the extended delay. I believe they waited to find a crew willing to go. There was next to NO service and the ONLY FA for the WHOLE cabin section was taking drink orders ONE AT A TIME! That is correct 'ONE AT A TIME'! It seemed like hours went by without drinks or food. Finally someone got up and helped themself to some booze. Well within a very short time almost everyone was taking the trip to the galley for some spirits! And soon there was nothing left to get up for! It was getting late and we barely saw the FA. Can't remember how long it took for the meal service. Perhaps she was helping in another section or hiding for her safety! It still remains the most confused flight I have ever been on. But people were not as vocal as they are now. Some must have tried to sleep it off.

Passenger civility has changed since that time. Not for the better, since they are more liberated from good behavior.
