This is a most interesting topic.
I fly a fair amount and have seen a lot of odd things while flying:
1. An apparently sober guy arrested on the ground in MSP for stealing money out of an FA's purse during the flight. The landing announcement: "Please remain in your seats until advised. The police are boarding to handle an in-flight incident and you are required to stay seated until they have departed the plane." Nobody moved.
2. Several (apparent) heart attacks and at least one subsequent medical diversion.
3. Loss of cabin pressure and a resulting emergency landing.
4. Inability to lower landing gear. After a bunch of circling they finally got it down.
5. Lots of really odd passenger behavior at check-in and at the gate--my favorite recent incident was a woman throwing a fit (a big fit) because they wouldn't give her an exit row. She "needed" it because she had just had serious back surgery and was in serious pain and could barely move. Go figure! The gate agent was very good.
6. Serious allergic reactions to peanut products and scents.
I have had employees who were so terrified of flying that they had to have a drink to board a plane.
I have never, however, seen an incident of air rage that appeared to have anything to do with alcohol consumption.
There was, I believe, a serious amount of alcohol consumption on the PIP Express (well at least they kept running out of stuff like Jack Daniels), but, as I recall drinking there just resulted in a lot of laughter, silliness and dancing).
There is good and bad to everything.
