If this sounds like a bit of a whiny post, I apologize. I just need to vent a bit of frustration somewhere.
My wife's job has seen her working out of her employer's Seattle office for most of the year. Thankfully, her employer provided spouses (me) with a raft of paid trips to/from to see her, so I've been making the STL-SEA run fairly often this year. AA dropped that route years ago, but AS picked it up and has been doing an awesome job with it. Of course, since AS codeshares with AA, I always give my AAdvantage number when taking these flights.
A few weeks ago, I passed 25K for the first time in a calendar year, so I thought I had actually reached Gold status.
So much for that. I noticed my status hadn't changed on AA>com, so I called the AAdvantage desk for help. It turns out that since I didn't fly at least 4 of those segments on AA metal, I get jack squat. *flips table*
I signed up for an AA miles account 10+ years ago, so I certainly don't remember the fine print at the time. But, nowhere on the usual 'your account' page does it say that the segments and miles I'm accruing aren't really counting for status purposes. And I'm 2x peeved b/c I intentionally passed on enrolling in the AS Mileage Plan so that I could accrue points on AA instead.
I feel like i just wasted all of that effort, tbh.
/PS: Yes, I know AA has 1/2 stop routes to SEA, but with my work schedule, I'd never make those flights. The AS non-stop route is perfectly timed and generally cheaper, so the employer's travel folks balk at the higher AA price anyway
