Sorry -- my point was that a run doing 8k miles on cheap fares to net 4k EQP, not that that they try to get 12k EQM; should have been clearer. I usually try to aim for 5-6c/EQM which would be 10-12c/EQP.

Whether the time is worth it vs. the cost is a very personal calculation, of course.
