While Delta dishes out more miles, their redemption requirements are roughly 2.5-3X AAs so it nets out - the sky miles are not worth as much. This year I have earned so far 1m miles and redeemed 600k miles just on a pair of roundtrip delta one flights to Europe for my wife and I. On AA that redemption would have been about 250k miles and would have been BA First.

So their mileage plan won't give them loyalty if they don't reward very high spend levels.
