Since AC's September RPMs were up 10.1% and WS's up less at 7.8%, I wouldn't bet that the alienated customers have gone elsewhere. I remember last year with the Altitude changes how much complaining there was and talk of going to different airlines... yet the lounges (and aircraft) seem just as busy as ever to me.
I actually disagree that this sale is about filling the aircraft - if it was it would probably be a tango sale.
My suspicion is that this sale is to encourage (or re-encourage) people to buy flex and latitude instead of buying tango.
This would suggest that they are happy with their capacity but want to try and increase revenue/profit per pax.
