The wording on the UA website is sometimes vague and can be interpreted multiple ways, but the wiki at the top of this thread synthesizes the correct interpretation of those policies based on hundreds and hundreds of peoples' experiences in this thread.
Thank you -- I'm new to United (but not FT or flying) and this sub-forum has been extremely helpful.
I looked online with a dummy booking and the fare class is currently available, so I have some hope it will work out.
