But the First lounge is perfectly comfortable. The food is fine, if inevitably a bit boring for frequent visitors. If you tire of champagne there's lots of other refreshments.

The Galleries lounge is good, too; but certainly no better than the First one.

Both can get crowded
Glad this thread got a bit of balanced views. The original post was written after coming off the SYD-LHR flight and I've surprised myself that it wasn't sprinkled with more colourful language (or at least spelling errors).

I digress.

On reflection, I'm grateful for having the business facility - I certainly don't treat it as anything less. I'm very routined in that I don't drink alcohol before or during a flight, and don't eat on board as a rule.

The facilities that are important to me (that I'd gladly pay for, or have paid for by way of loyalty) are a decent bite to eat, and clean facilities to wash up. Good service isn't essential, but you kind of expect it: after all, the lounges are the first experience that some BA passengers get.

Being looked at incredulously when asking (politely) for some poached eggs, the retort being "yeah", as if it was an unwanted chore, was representative of the airline, like it or not. Fortunately I know better, that the BA staff on board wouldn't be so crass as to be as rude to its customers.

I should point out that I have chosen to fly with British Airways for 8-9 years, and all the while convincing myself that it is the best choice for my now monthly schlep down-under. On the whole its routine, regular, and without fuss.

I've also had the pleasure of doing the route with Emirates.

Heads up BA.
