There are several airports near Lago di Garda: Venice (VCE), Milano Linate (LIN), Verona (VRN), and Brescia/Bergamo (don't remember the code). Milano Malpensa (MXP) is a bit farther, but it has transatlantic flights (on AA, UA, DL, CO?, not sure who else). I believe DL has a non-stop JFK-VCE. The Riccione/Rimini areas is a bit sleazy, IMHO, and very crowded, but Ravenna is a very interesting city, w/fantastic Bizantine mosaics and early Christian architecture (5-10 century A.D.).
